From museums and concert halls to gardens and historic monuments, this exhibition focuses on cutting-edge designs commissioned by cultural institutions in New York. Six projects—the New Museum of Contemporary Art on the Bowery, the renovation of the Bronx Zoo Lion House, the new Administrative and Visitors' Center at the Queens Botanical Garden, the Weeksville Heritage Center Education Building and Interpretive Landscapes, the restoration of the Snug Harbor Cultural Center Music Hall on Staten Island, and the transformation of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts—are offered as case studies illustrating the influence of the arts industry and innovative architecture on the revitalization of institutions, neighborhoods and our City.

Join us for a fun filled Saturday of six cultural intuitions in one to celebrate new building projects and expansions of New York City's zoos, gardens, museums, and performance spaces. Learn about plant life with the Queens Botanical Garden, create new media interactive art pieces with the New Museum of Contemporary Art, and delve into animal architecture with the Bronx Zoo. Representatives from each of these cultural institutions plus Weeksville Heritage Center, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, and Lincoln Center Institute will be leading simultaneous workshops at the Center for Architecture from 1 - 4.

Capital Projects at Cultural Institutions: City Funding Process and Economic Impact
Thursday, August 3, 6-8pm

Panel discussion on the history and process of capital funding at cultural institutions and its economic impact on the city.

Interpretive Center at the Weeksville Heritage Center
Tuesday, September 19, 6-8 pm

Rediscovered in 1968, the historic settlement Weeksville is a powerful sumbol of the perseverance of post-Civil War African-Americans.
Panel discussion will focus on the community's history and the new Interpretive Center, designed by Caples Jefferson Architects.

New Museum of Contemporary Art

Founded in 1977, the New Museum is one of the city's major venues dedicated to showing international contemporary art. Panel discussion focuses on the design of the Museum's new home and the collaboration between the client and the architectural team, SANAA and Gensler.
